Mark Christopher McCafferty, Funeral Director
McCafferty Funeral Home opened up in Dec 1970 at the current location 6709-11 Frankford Ave. James A. McCafferty, Sr and his wife Margaret Mary (nee Dinan) saw a need for a compassionate funeral provider in the Mayfair area. Both James and Margaret come from a family that was 3rd generation Funeral Directors with Margaret growing up in a Funeral Home in Center City (Dinan Funeral Home). James passed away in March of 1992 and Margaret took over the operations with the help of her 4 sons until her death in May of 2011.
Mark McCafferty, the youngest of the 4 children, now owns and operates the Funeral Home. Mark attended St. Timothy grade school and Father Judge Highschool, class of 1990. While attending Drexel University, Mark’s father died and his attention became focused on helping his mother run the funeral business, so he enrolled in Mercer County Mortuary Program earning his Funeral Director’s license. Mark and his family reside on top of the funeral home. Along with the many duties of helping grieving families, Mark coaches many areas sports teams and helps to run the Falcons Baseball Club. He is also involved with many events and fund raisers for his beloved Fr. Judge.
Mark McCafferty has had the honor to handle many high profile funerals in his career including longtime Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas, Petty Officer Michael Strange (US NAVY SEALS) killed in the line of duty and Officer Jose Ortiz-Philadelphia Police Dept, also killed in the line of duty. Although taking care of these funerals is a tremendous honor, Mark’s real passion is to help all people from different backrounds get through the most difficult time of their life.
