Joan H. Tarpinian (nee Herbert) born May 2, 1937 to August 4, 2016 79, of Philadelphia passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 4, 2016 with her family by her side. Joan was a loyal and loving Sister, Mother, Mommom, Gigi, Aunt, and Friend who had a profound impact on everyone who was lucky enough to have known her. Joan was a retired City of Philadelphia Crossing Guard. She also served as the Treasurer of the Lower Mayfair Recreation Center for many years. Joan belonged to the senior citizens group at St. Timothy’s Church and the John M. Perzel Community Center. Joan is survived by three children; Monica Ladislaw (Joseph), Philip Tarpinian Jr. (Helene), and Denis Tarpinian, six grandchildren; Meghan Michalski (Phil), Caitlin Hart (Paul), Michael Moore, Mariah Tarpinian, Lucy Tarpinian, and Joe Tarpinian, one great-grandaughter; Emily Hart, her brother Gene Herbert, her sister Eileen Burke (Jerry), as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband; Philip Tarpinian, her mother, Margaret Herbert, her sister; Rita McClure, her brother; Lou Herbert, her sisters-in-law; Nancy Herbert and Mary Hartnett, and brother-in-law; John Tarpinian.
Relatives and friends are invited to share in Joan’s Life Celebration on Wednesday, August 10 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Timothy Catholic Church (3001 Levick Street, Philadelphia, PA 19149). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be celebrated at Resurrection Cemetery (5201 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem, PA 19020).
